EOP Summer Institute Gives Students Head Start

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 28, 2018) — The Educational Opportunity Program at SUNY Plattsburgh is gearing up for its annual EOP Summer Institute during which nearly 75 students will spend four weeks on campus to prepare them for their first semester as college students.

EOP has for nearly 50 years opened the door to higher education for students who might not otherwise have a chance to pursue their college dream because of academic or economic disadvantages. The Summer Institute July 7-Aug. 4 this year takes them one step closer, said Levi Martinez, a counselor in EOP. 


New College Website Focused on Future Students

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 26, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh will launch a new website July 1, a robust online presence focused on meeting the needs of today’s digital marketplace.

In identifying the need for a comprehensive redesign of the website, campus leaders also integrated a new content management system and other features into the project. 


College's Successful Support Program Posts Strong Results, Gains Funding

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 26, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh’s program that supports first-generation, low-income and disabled students’ academic and emotional well-being surpassed federal guidelines, garnering the potential for an increase in funding over the next five years.

Student Support Services, part of the U.S. Department of Education’s TRIO Programs, “is mainly an academic support program on campus, but students get much broader support in terms of making sure they have appropriate housing and financial resources, as well as emotional and mental health support,” said Bryan Hartman, vice president for student affairs. 


SUNY Plattsburgh Announces Spring 2018 Dean's List

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 25, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh has released the names of students who made the college’s dean’s list for spring 2018.

To be eligible, undergraduate students must achieve a minimum 3.5 semester grade point average with at least 12 credit hours. Part-time, matriculated students are also eligible for the dean’s list after accruing 12 credit hours consecutively and achieving a minimum 3.5 grade point average. The credits may be accumulated in more than one semester. Pass/fail credits do not count, nor are graduate students included in the list. 


College Center Reorganization, Newly Renovated Macomb Hall Highlight Summer Changes

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 13, 2018) — Office changes and improvements in Angell College Center and the wrap-up on renovations to Macomb Hall, the new residence-hall home to the Educational Opportunity Program and Student Support Services, are among the many changes to campus infrastructure this summer.

The Angell College Center, long the hub of student-support offices like EOP, SSS and student involvement, will have an entirely new blueprint when students return in the fall.


Rabin Golf Tournament Scheduled for July 25 at Harmony Golf Club

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 8, 2018) — Registration for the 14th-annual Mark Rabin Memorial Golf Tournament, being held Wednesday, July 25 at Harmony Golf Club in Port Kent, N.Y., is underway.

Hosted by the School of Business and Economics, the four-person scramble-style tournament supports the Plattsburgh College Foundation and the Mark Rabin Memorial Scholarship Endowment. 


Residence Life Director Steve Matthews Inducted into Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame

PLATTSBURGH, N.HY. (June 7, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh Director of Housing and Residence Life Steve Matthews will be inducted into the American Football Association Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame June 21-22 in Canton, Ohio.

Matthews will be the lone official inducted into the officials’ category this year. 


Rockwell Kent Exhibit in Glens Falls Site of Alumni Office Event

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 7, 2018) — The Plattsburgh State Art Museum and SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni Association will co-host a gathering of alumni and friends at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren St., Glens Falls, Saturday, June 23 for the museum’s current Rockwell Kent exhibit.

The event begins with a lecture by Rockwell Kent scholar Justin Wolff, associate professor of art history at the University of Maine, at 1 p.m. followed by a tour at 2 p.m. and refreshments at 3 p.m. 


New University Police Officer Sworn In

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 1, 2018) — SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling presided over the swearing-in of new University Police Officer Kyle Carter Friday morning, June 1, in the Office of the President, Hawkins Hall.

Carter’s appointment brings the number of UP officers to 16. The SUNY Plattsburgh Class of 2016 graduate majored in criminal justice and said he comes from a long line of law-enforcement family members. 


Plattsburgh Native Patrick Rascoe Named New University Police Chief

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (June 1, 2018) — Patrick Rascoe, former police inspector with University Police, has been named the Plattsburgh force’s chief of police, effective May 25.

Rascoe, who brings 24 years of police experience to the position, takes over the position from recently retired Chief Jerry Lottie.
